Google’s new emoji aim to combat gender inequality

“These new emoji are one of several efforts we’re making to better represent women in technology, and to connect girls with the education and resources they need to pursue careers” in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, Google wrote on its official blog when the company unveiled the series of new emoji in July 2016.

This emoji collection depicts women with an array of skin tones and the diversity of careers. It also diversified the available emoji collection which were largely white and adhered to stereotypical gender norms.

These tiny icons not only contributes to promote gender equality but also bring a simple happiness to females, particularly those under 30, who love using emoji.

With new emoji released, Google has taken more steps for gender equality that is still a contentious topic in technology.
